Meet our latest NoMiNoU Ambassador, Kamantha Naidoo AKA The Health Babe! A certified counsellor, educator and personal trainer, Kamantha is also a fitness influencer and offers holistic health coaching to clients. This busy lady squeezed some time in her schedule to tell us all about her approach to wellness, and shared some great health hacks to boot.
What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness is LIFE! In a world where we are surrounded by poor lifestyle choices and sickness, wellness is the antidote to all the darkness in our society.
How long have wellness and mindfulness been important parts of your life? Walk us through your personal wellness journey.
I have been a counsellor since 2009 and I started my journey into wellness practices in 2012 after I hurt my back. I was unable to do normal tasks for more than a month and though it was not a severe injury, it was enough for me to reflect on the importance of my health. I had actually accepted ill health for most of my life, living with digestive issues and recurring stomach ailments. In 2012, I decided to make a big change and started eating healthier, exercising, practising yoga and meditation, and teaching these techniques to my clients.
What does a day in your life look like?
I try my best to wake up before 7 a.m. and start my day with a cleaning ritual, which entails sweeping my home and taking a nice hot shower. Then I proceed with my morning meditation and yoga practice. A green smoothie is my daily breakfast, helping me stay energetic throughout the day. My days differ: if I’m not booked for sessions, meetings or modelling work, you can find me at my office doing video editing for my YouTube channel and creating posts about health and fitness for my Instagram and Facebook pages.
How do you incorporate wellness into your everyday life?
By keeping time for reflection and also time-outs. I ensure that exercise and mindfulness is a part of my daily practice.
What are your top three wellness tips?
-Drink water (lots of it!), whether in the form of herbal teas, hot turmeric detox water or lemon water. I like to switch it up!
-Embrace smoothies for breakfast! You can find lots of my recipes on my Instagram.
-Always eat a salad first before making your way towards the carbs.
